The leadership of the Movement requested Mariadele Tavazzi, a young writer who specialized in the lives of the saints, to write [Fr. Gobbi’s] first biography.
With devotion and enthusiasm, she followed Father Stefano’s footsteps, seeking to retrace the steps of his life’s journey. She interviewed his surviving relatives, and walked along the streets of his native town.
Little by little she visited all the places where Father Stefano had lived, from Dongo to the Franciscan seminaries where he spent ten years of his youth, to Rovigo, where he spent a couple of years, then to Milan where he lived first as a layman and then as a religious of the Company of St. Paul. Then finally, she interviewed all, or almost all, of the main collaborators in the Marian Movement of Priests. The result of her research is a portrait of a man blessed with an extraordinary faith.
